The Clinical Laboratory and Standards Institute (CLSI) has approved methods for testing of both yeast and moulds. Testing may be accomplished via macrobroth, microbroth, or disk methods. In addition to CLSI methods, industry has provided a variety of both manual and automated systems for determining antifungal susceptibility for fungi. This, combined with an expanded list of interpretive data, has elevated antifungal susceptibility testing to a level of importance as a diagnostic test.

Antifungal Susceptibility Testing of Fusarium: A Practical Approach
In vitro susceptibility testing of Fusarium is becoming increasingly important because of frequency and diversity of infections and because resistance profiles are species-specific. Reference methods for antifungal susceptibility testing (AFST) are those of Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) and European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility (EUCAST), but breakpoints (BPs) h...

A commercially prepared, dried colorimetric microdilution panel (Sensititre YeastOne Trek Diagnostic Systems, Cleveland, OH) was compared in three different laboratories with the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) reference microdilution method by testing 2 quality control strains, 25 reproducibility strains, and 404 isolates of Candida spp. against anidulafungin, caspofungin, a...

SUSCEPTIBILITY TESTS Antibacterial susceptibility testing is not necessary for every case in veterinary medicine because the majority of cases can be treated empirically. But performed properly, antibiotic susceptibility results are helpful to select proper antibacterial therapy for patients with refractory infections, seriously ill animals, or when resistant strains of bacteria are suspected. ...

The commercial technique Vitek 2 system for antifungal susceptibility testing of yeast species was evaluated. A collection of 154 clinical yeast isolates, including amphotericin B- and azole-resistant organisms, was tested. Results were compared with those obtained by the reference procedures of both the CLSI and the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST). Two other...
